Choose a sunscreen labeled “broad spectrum” to protect against both UVA and UVB rays.
Consider your skin type
Oily/acne-prone: choose oil-free or non-comedogenic formulas.
Dry: look for moisturizing ingredients.
Sensitive: consider fragrance-free mineral sunscreen.
Combination: try a lightweight lotion or fluid.
Pick a comfortable texture
Creams, gels, fluids, and sticks are all options. Choose the texture you enjoy using so you’re more likely to apply it consistently.
Consider a tinted sunscreen
A tinted formula can help minimize white cast. Sunscreens containing iron oxides may also provide additional protection against visible light, which can contribute to pigmentation.
Choose water-resistant sunscreen when needed
If you swim, exercise, or sweat heavily, select a water-resistant formula. Remember that water-resistant sunscreen still needs to be reapplied.
Test how your skin reacts
If a sunscreen causes persistent burning, itching, or irritation, discontinue it and try another formulation.
Use it consistently and correctly
Apply sunscreen generously to exposed facial skin and reapply about every 2 hours when outdoors, or after swimming or heavy sweating.
